Leadership Week
Becoming a Counsellor at Lead Week:
Age: 14 & Up + Passed Grade 9
Cost: under review
(10 of 50 spots will be reserved for participants aged 14-15)
Focused on building on the strengths of our young people, participants will gain skills vital to any leadership position. Emphasis will be given to the skills needed to excel at being a camp counselor. Activities will focus on developing positive communication skills, building team unity, and enacting effective discipline. The week is filled with adventure including awesome games both day and night, 48 hours on the Island, wall climbing, and much more. Suitable participants will be asked to come back and put these skills to good use as an on-site counselor for our summer camps. These teens and young adults are challenged to learn and live out their Catholic-Christian faith in a real way. Jesus becomes our example of what it means to be a leader in the world. Our hope is to evangelize and catechize our youth in a way that prepares the for the many challenges they will face in their homes, communities, and within the world. "The challenge of this "New Evangelization" is clear; we are all called to live out our baptismal vocation through lives of sacrificial service, at the heart of the Church, for the sake of the world. All of the faithful, men, and women, lay, clergy and religious, need to view themselves as missionaries. We also need to view the mission of the Church as OUR mission." - www.catholic.org
(Please note: Member Camps of the Alberta Camping Association are required to have counselors who are 16 or older AND possess current Standard First Aid and CPR. To uphold these standards, all volunteer counselors must be 16 or over and provide proof of certification for Standard First Aid and CPR. Those aged 14-15 years will be considered for Counselor-in-Training positions where they will be paired with a senior counselor who is 16 or older.)
