Tsunami

Hello, my name is Tsumani! I have been involved in camps since 1980. I have a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Calgary, my Canadian Certificate of Youth Ministry Studies, a Certificate of Catholic Studies from Newman/Dayton and have attended the Canadian Camp Director’s Course. This spring I completed training from the Outdoor Council of Canada in order to train and certify Level One Hiking Leaders.

I have been a facilitator of the Called to Protect program for the Archdiocese of Edmonton since 2012. I am also the mother of 6 children! The community at camp has been a very important blessing in my life. I am grateful that camp continues to bring fun, faith and friendship to hundreds of young people each summer!

Panda

Hei! (This is Norwegian, not a typo, I promise) I’m your resident Panda, serving y’all as the Assistant Program Director in 2018! I am unbelievably excited to be plopping down at camp this summer. Camp means oh so very much to me. It’s where I have not only developed my faith, but have developed bonds stronger than adamantium and connected with the great outdoors. I’m rolling headfirst into my last year of a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, where I learn the hows and whys of body movement, functioning and its social aspects. This past year I’ve been living in Norway, learning tons, broadening horizons and having my mind blown. This summer is lining up to be a blast, with amazing staff and so so much energy and love that’s already building up. I cannot wait to share all of it with everybody soon!
Fun fact #1: Panda in Chinese is 熊猫 (xióngmāo) which literally translates to “bear cat”

Grizzly
Hi there! My name is Grizzly or Grizz for short.. If I wasn't a staff member there is something I'd rather be, if I wa... wait a minute I am a staff member there is nothing I would rather be! And there is no place I would rather be either! I grew up at camp looking up at the staff, they were like my hero's. To have the chance to become one of those hero's to kids is a dream come true. It is my first summer as staff and I am so excited to be on the outrip team and explore Catfish Island as much as it can be explored.

Argo
Howdy folks! My name is Argo and this will be my third summer as a program staff. I will be returning to my roots, leading the Recreation program as I did in my first summer! It will most definitely be an exciting time. Following the rip-roarin’ events of the summer months, I will be entering my third year in a Bachelor of Education at the U of A.

Mallard
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Dr. Suess

Mallard’s a duck who likes Encounter a lot…
But when it came to veggies he most certainly did NOT!

Mallard hates veggies, no matter the season.
And don’t ask him why. He certainly has his reason.

Regardless, to him Camp is perfectly right.
Even if his theme dinner costume ends up too tight.

And Mal’s biggest reason for returning at all:
Is spending time with the campers, the big and the small.

“They’re all super awesome and they all wear cool shoes.
Not to mention adorable, like a herd of Whos.”

And soaring back to Outrip doesn’t make Mallard frown.
Because it’s gonna be crazy, like Verm his home town,

For Grizzly's his partner, the one who’s bio is maybe(?) beneath
And who gets called nearly everything except “Christmas Wreath.”

Mallard is excited, with a smile not a sneer,
Because soon will be summer, it’s practically here!

Avalanche
Hello!! My name is Avalanche and I’m very excited to come back to my second year here as staff, and this time for both spring and summer! This spring will be especially exciting as it is my first spring, and I especially love when kids and teachers all skip school to visit us at Camp. I’m more than thrilled to be back to not only play lots of crazy games in Rec, but to just hang out at the campfire and on Catfish Island. Outside of camp, I have been working on my Bachelor of Arts at the University of Alberta, and as a History Major, I have been fascinated by some important pioneers in the field of Reck. I was especially inspired by the vintage lyricist and musician, Robert van Winkle, known as Vanilla Ice in his day, who once said that he does “freestyle jumping” and that he “rides with confidence.” With this new Wreck history in mind, I’m very excited to come back and have some fun!
