Volunteers

At Camp Encounter, we are blessed with many wonderful, compassionate, and giving volunteers who help make Camp Encounter AWESOME. Some of our AMAZING volunteers include:

Junior Counsellors
Our volunteer counsellors are the dedicated heart of summer camp. They follow the requirements as mentioned above,  have attended our Leadership Week (counsellor training), have summer camp experience, and enjoy working with children. First time Junior Counsellors will be paired with a more experienced Junior Counsellor.  Some may also get the opportunity to be a Volunteer Dishwasher.  Not everyone who comes to Lead Week is guaranteed a spot as a volunteer that summer.   In addition to participating actively in Lead Week,  individuals must prove their talents during Lead Week and/or through volunteer dishwashing, and/or through out the year at Camp Encounter events as volunteers.

Volunteer Dishwashers
Our volunteer dishwashers have some of the most fun out at camp, Seriously! We open 2-3 position for volunteer dishwashers each week during the summer. Main responsibilities are to clean dishes after each meal and help with out-trip. In this position dishwashers have the most free time to join the various programs going on at camp. This position is also used as an introductory role into volunteering at camp. Dishwashers who work hard, stay involved in all the activities, and bring positive energy to camp, are highly valued and considered for future volunteer counselling.
Open to anyone aged 14-18 who qualifies and has attended Lead Week.

Volunteer Intern Programmers
Formerly known as Volunteer Director's, our Volunteer Intern Programmers are the dedicated support staff. They are 18+ years old volunteers who assist in planning and running certain aspects of the camp program e.g. theme meals, secret friends, as well as providing general help all over camp. VIP's are required each week of summer camp and often we have two out at a time.

Most VIP's come from our pool of volunteers who are old enough to handle programming type responsibilities, as well we use the Volunteer Interim Programmer position as a measure of the talents, skills and competency of all potential future staff members.

Click Here for the VIP Application Form. Please complete and return to Camp Encounter via mail or email ASAP.

All VIPs must attend a Volunteer Training Day
Please contact the Program Director if you are interested in attending.

All Volunteers (Junior Counselors, Dishwashers, VIPs) must have the following completed prior to the first week they volunteer:
Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector) within 3 years
Intervention Record Check (click here for more info on how to get one)
Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
*All Counsellors and Dishwashers must have completed Leadership Week at Camp Encounter*

Criminal Record Checks with a vulnerable sector check is done through your local RCMP or city police service.  Camp Encounter is able to provide a letter confirming you as a volunteer to reduce or eliminate the cost of obtaining your record check.  The time needed to complete this check varies greatly and can take anywhere from a week to one month to be returned; so please plan early!
